SERI uses only solid natural materials. Our pieces are available in a range of hardwoods that are carefully selected to be both durable and beautiful, and to enrich the experience of living with this furniture as it matures. We utilize four hardwoods in our standard range, American Ash (bleached), Eastern Maple, Black Walnut and Wenge, but custom selections are available in certain situations. Only the best quality boards are selected and matched from carefully dried stock. The pieces are finished with a non-toxic catalyzed varnish that is exceptionally durable in normal use and resistant to UV light, thus minimizing colour change over time. Much of our furniture combines anodized aluminum with wood in its construction. These metal elements are carefully engineered to achieve the minimal structures needed to express the form of the piece while still respecting the natural properties of the wood. SERI uses two types of limestone in some furniture. As this stone is porous by nature, we seal the surface to protect against occaisional spillages.
